GLAMORGANSHIRE, a county of South Wales, bounded on the south by the Bristol Channel, on the East by Monmouthshire, on the north by Brecknockshire, and on the west by Carmarthenshire. Its shape is very irregular : the greater portion of the sea coast forms a semicircular sweep; the western extremity is a narrow tract of land between the open Channel on the one hand, and the estuary of the river Burry on the other.
